A filling that fell out mid-bite or a crown that popped off leaves the tooth underneath open to air, food and bacteria. Call (561) 652-5796 and we'll see you the same day at our office on Hypoluxo Rd in Lake Worth. We'll cover the tooth so it stops hurting and doesn't break.
The $99 is a minimum fee for patients paying without insurance. It covers a limited, problem-focused emergency exam (ADA code D0140) and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

Signs a lost filling or crown needs care today
Losing a filling or crown isn't always painful at first, but the tooth underneath is weaker than it looks. Call today if:
- The tooth is sensitive to cold, sweets or air.
- You feel a sharp edge, or food keeps packing into the hole.
- The tooth hurts when you bite.
- The crown came off with a piece of tooth still inside it.
- Your gum around the tooth is sore or swollen.

Decay often caused the filling or crown to loosen in the first place. Left uncovered, that decay can move toward the nerve in days or weeks, and a simple fix can turn into a root canal.
What to do until your visit
- Keep the crown. Rinse it, dry it and bring it in a small bag or container. Many crowns can be cleaned and cemented back on.
- Don't glue it. Household glue can damage the tooth and make a proper fix harder.
- Protect the tooth. Pharmacy dental wax or temporary filling material can cover a hole or a sharp edge for a day or two.
- Chew on the other side and skip very hot, cold, sticky or hard foods.
If a crown comes off and you might swallow it, take it out of your mouth right away rather than holding it in place.
What happens at your same-day visit
The dentist checks the tooth for new decay or cracks and takes an X-ray to see whether the nerve is affected. Then we explain what's needed, with the price in writing before we start.
If the crown is intact and fits well, we clean the tooth and crown and cement it back. If it doesn't fit or is damaged, we place a temporary crown to protect the tooth while a new one is made.
For a lost filling, we remove any decay, then place a new filling. If too much tooth is gone for a filling to hold, we'll put in a temporary filling and talk with you about a crown.
When a broken tooth is the reason the crown or filling came out, see broken tooth repair for what that involves.

Frequently asked questions
Is a lost filling an emergency?
It's urgent rather than an emergency if it doesn't hurt. Try to be seen within a day or two, since the open tooth can decay or crack. If it hurts, is sharp or your gum is swelling, call us today for a same-day time.
Can I put my crown back on myself?
You can sometimes seat it temporarily with dental cement from a pharmacy, but never use super glue. Even a temporary fix can trap bacteria under the crown. Treat it as a stopgap until we can clean and cement it properly.
Why did my crown fall off?
Common reasons include decay under the crown's edge, old cement wearing out, a sticky or very hard food, or grinding your teeth. We check the tooth for decay before putting anything back so the same thing doesn't happen again.
Can a lost filling be replaced the same day?
Usually, yes. If the tooth is healthy enough to hold a filling, we can often replace it during the same-day visit. If there's deep decay or a crack, the dentist may place a temporary filling first.
